39 Poi, essendo uscito, andò, secondo il suo solito, al monte degli Ulivi; e anche i discepoli lo seguirono.40 E giunto che fu sul luogo, disse loro: Pregate, chiedendo di non entrare in tentazione.41 Ed egli si staccò da loro circa un tiro di sasso; e postosi in ginocchio pregava, dicendo:42 Padre, se tu vuoi, allontana da me questo calice! Però, non la mia volontà, ma la tua sia fatta.43 E un angelo gli apparve dal cielo a confortarlo.44 Ed essendo in agonia, egli pregava vie più intensamente; e il suo sudore divenne come grosse gocce di sangue che cadeano in terra.45 E alzatosi dall’orazione, venne ai discepoli e li trovò che dormivano di tristezza,46 e disse loro: Perché dormite? Alzatevi e pregate, affinché non entriate in tentazione.

32 Poi vennero in un podere detto Getsemani; ed egli disse ai suoi discepoli: Sedete qui finché io abbia pregato.33 E prese seco Pietro e Giacomo e Giovanni e cominciò ad essere spaventato ed angosciato.34 E disse loro: L’anima mia è oppressa da tristezza mortale; rimanete qui e vegliate.35 E andato un poco innanzi, si gettò a terra; e pregava che, se fosse possibile, quell’ora passasse oltre da lui.36 E diceva: Abba, Padre! ogni cosa ti è possibile; allontana da me questo calice! Ma pure, non quello che io voglio, ma quello che tu vuoi.37 E venne, e li trovò che dormivano, e disse a Pietro: Simone, dormi tu? non sei stato capace di vegliare un’ora sola?38 Vegliate e pregate, affinché non cadiate in tentazione; ben è lo spirito pronto, ma la carne è debole.39 E di nuovo andò e pregò, dicendo le medesime parole.40 E tornato di nuovo, li trovò che dormivano perché gli occhi loro erano aggravati; e non sapevano che rispondergli.41 E venne la terza volta, e disse loro: Dormite pure oramai, e riposatevi! Basta! L’ora è venuta: ecco, il Figliuol dell’uomo è dato nelle mani dei peccatori.42 Levatevi, andiamo; ecco, colui che mi tradisce, è vicino.
Matthew 26
36 Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here, while I go over there and pray.”37 And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and troubled.38 Then he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.”39 And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”40 And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour?41 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”42 Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.”43 And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.44 So, leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same words again.45 Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Sleep and take your rest later on. See, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.46 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.”
