Acts 6 1 Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution. 2 And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples and said, “It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. 3 Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. 4 But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” 5 And what they said pleased the whole gathering, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch. 6 These they set before the apostles, and they prayed and laid their hands on them. 7 And the word of God continued to increase, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith. 8 And Stephen, full of grace and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people. 9 Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called), and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and disputed with Stephen. 10 But they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking. 11 Then they secretly instigated men who said, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.” 12 And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and they came upon him and seized him and brought him before the council, 13 and they set up false witnesses who said, “This man never ceases to speak words against this holy place and the law, 14 for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and will change the customs that Moses delivered to us.” 15 And gazing at him, all who sat in the council saw that his face was like the face of an angel. Luke 11 1 Ed avvenne che essendo egli in orazione in un certo luogo, com’ebbe finito, uno de’ suoi discepoli gli disse: Signore, insegnaci a pregare come anche Giovanni ha insegnato ai suoi discepoli 2 Ed egli disse loro: Quando pregate, dite: Padre, sia santificato il tuo nome; venga il tuo regno; 3 dacci di giorno in giorno il nostro pane cotidiano; 4 e perdonaci i nostri peccati, poiché anche noi perdoniamo ad ogni nostro debitore; e non ci esporre alla tentazione. 5 Poi disse loro: Se uno d’infra voi ha un amico e va da lui a mezzanotte e gli dice: Amico, prestami tre pani, 6 perché m’è giunto di viaggio in casa un amico, e non ho nulla da mettergli dinanzi; 7 e se colui dal di dentro gli risponde: Non mi dar molestia; già è serrata la porta, e i miei fanciulli son meco a letto, io non posso alzarmi per darteli, 8 io vi dico che quand’anche non s’alzasse a darglieli perché gli è amico, pure, per la importunità sua, si leverà e gliene darà quanti ne ha di bisogno. 9 Io altresì vi dico: Chiedete, e vi sarà dato; cercate e troverete; picchiate, e vi sarà aperto. 10 Poiché chiunque chiede riceve, chi cerca trova, e sarà aperto a chi picchia. 11 E chi è quel padre tra voi che, se il figliuolo gli chiede un pane, gli dia una pietra? O se gli chiede un pesce, gli dia invece una serpe? 12 Oppure anche se gli chiede un uovo, gli dia uno scorpione? 13 Se voi dunque, che siete malvagi, sapete dare buoni doni ai vostri figliuoli, quanto più il vostro Padre celeste donerà lo Spirito Santo a coloro che glielo domandano! 14 Or egli stava cacciando un demonio che era muto; ed avvenne che quando il demonio fu uscito, il muto parlò; e le turbe si maravigliarono. 15 Ma alcuni di loro dissero: E’ per l’aiuto di Beelzebub, principe dei demoni, ch’egli caccia i demoni. 16 Ed altri, per metterlo alla prova, chiedevano da lui un segno dal cielo. 17 Ma egli, conoscendo i loro pensieri, disse loro: Ogni regno diviso in parti contrarie è ridotto in deserto, e una casa divisa contro se stessa, rovina. 18 Se dunque anche Satana è diviso contro se stesso, come potrà reggere il suo regno? Poiché voi dite che è per l’aiuto di Beelzebub che io caccio i demoni. 19 E se io caccio i demoni per l’aiuto di Beelzebub, i vostri figliuoli per l’aiuto di chi li caccian essi? Perciò, essi stessi saranno i vostri giudici. 20 Ma se è per il dito di Dio che io caccio i demoni, è dunque pervenuto fino a voi il regno di Dio. 21 Quando l’uomo forte, ben armato, guarda l’ingresso della sua dimora, quel ch’e’ possiede è al sicuro; 22 ma quando uno più forte di lui sopraggiunge e lo vince, gli toglie tutta l’armatura nella quale si confidava, e ne spartisce le spoglie. 23 Chi non è con me, è contro di me; e chi non raccoglie con me, disperde. 24 Quando lo spirito immondo è uscito da un uomo, va attorno per luoghi aridi, cercando riposo; e non trovandone, dice: Ritornerò nella mia casa donde sono uscito; 25 e giuntovi, la trova spazzata e adorna. 26 Allora va e prende seco altri sette spiriti peggiori di lui, ed entrano ad abitarla; e l’ultima condizione di quell’uomo divien peggiore della prima. 27 Or avvenne che, mentre egli diceva queste cose, una donna di fra la moltitudine alzò la voce e gli disse: Beato il seno che ti portò e le mammelle che tu poppasti! Ma egli disse: 28 Beati piuttosto quelli che odono la parola di Dio e l’osservano! 29 E affollandosi intorno a lui le turbe, egli prese a dire: Questa generazione è una generazione malvagia; ella chiede un segno; e segno alcuno non le sarà dato, salvo il segno di Giona. 30 Poiché come Giona fu un segno per i Niniviti, così anche il Figliuol dell’uomo sarà per questa generazione. 31 La regina del Mezzodì risusciterà nel giudizio con gli uomini di questa generazione e li condannerà; perché ella venne dalle estremità della terra per udir la sapienza di Salomone; ed ecco qui v’è più che Salomone. 32 I Niniviti risusciteranno nel giudizio con questa generazione e la condanneranno; perché essi si ravvidero alla predicazione di Giona; ed ecco qui v’è più che Giona. 33 Nessuno, quand’ha acceso una lampada, la mette in un luogo nascosto o sotto il moggio; anzi la mette sul candeliere, affinché coloro che entrano veggano la luce. 34 La lampada del tuo corpo è l’occhio; se l’occhio tuo è sano, anche tutto il tuo corpo è illuminato; ma se è viziato, anche il tuo corpo è nelle tenebre. 35 Guarda dunque che la luce che è in te non sia tenebre. 36 Se dunque tutto il tuo corpo è illuminato, senz’aver parte alcuna tenebrosa, sarà tutto illuminato come quando la lampada t’illumina col suo splendore. 37 Or mentr’egli parlava, un Fariseo lo invitò a desinare da lui. Ed egli, entrato, si mise a tavola. 38 E il Fariseo, veduto questo, si maravigliò che non si fosse prima lavato, avanti il desinare. 39 E il Signore gli disse: Voi altri Farisei nettate il di fuori della coppa e del piatto, ma l’interno vostro è pieno di rapina e di malvagità. 40 Stolti, Colui che ha fatto il di fuori, non ha anche fatto il di dentro? 41 Date piuttosto in elemosina quel ch’è dentro al piatto; ed ecco, ogni cosa sarà netta per voi. 42 Ma guai a voi, Farisei, poiché pagate la decima della menta, della ruta e d’ogni erba, e trascurate la giustizia e l’amor di Dio! Queste son le cose che bisognava fare, senza tralasciar le altre. 43 Guai a voi, Farisei, perché amate i primi seggi nelle sinagoghe, e i saluti nelle piazze. 44 Guai a voi, perché siete come quei sepolcri che non si vedono, e chi vi cammina sopra non ne sa niente. 45 Allora uno dei dottori della legge, rispondendo, gli disse: Maestro, parlando così, fai ingiuria anche a noi. 46 Ed egli disse: Guai anche a voi, dottori della legge, perché caricate le genti di pesi difficili a portare e voi non toccate quei pesi neppur con un dito! 47 Guai a voi, perché edificate i sepolcri de’ profeti, e i vostri padri li uccisero. 48 Voi dunque testimoniate delle opere de’ vostri padri e le approvate; perché essi li uccisero, e voi edificate loro de’ sepolcri. 49 E per questo la sapienza di Dio ha detto: Io manderò loro dei profeti e degli apostoli; e ne uccideranno alcuni e ne perseguiteranno altri, 50 affinché il sangue di tutti i profeti sparso dalla fondazione del mondo sia ridomandato a questa generazione; 51 dal sangue di Abele fino al sangue di Zaccaria che fu ucciso fra l’altare ed il tempio; sì, vi dico, sarà ridomandato a questa generazione. 52 Guai a voi, dottori della legge, poiché avete tolta la chiave della scienza! Voi stessi non siete entrati, ed avete impedito quelli che entravano. 53 E quando fu uscito di là, gli scribi e i Farisei cominciarono a incalzarlo fieramente ed a trargli di bocca risposte a molte cose; tendendogli de’ lacci, 54 per coglier qualche parola che gli uscisse di bocca. Luke 6 1 Or avvenne che in un giorno di sabato egli passava per i seminati; e i suoi discepoli svellevano delle spighe, e sfregandole con le mani, mangiavano. 2 Ed alcuni de’ Farisei dissero: Perché fate quel che non è lecito nel giorno del sabato? 3 E Gesù, rispondendo, disse loro: Non avete letto neppure quel che fece Davide, quand’ebbe fame, egli e coloro ch’eran con lui? 4 Com’entrò nella casa di Dio, e prese i pani di presentazione, e ne mangiò e ne diede anche a coloro che eran con lui, quantunque non sia lecito mangiarne se non ai soli sacerdoti? 5 E diceva loro: Il Figliuol dell’uomo è Signore del sabato. 6 Or avvenne in un altro sabato ch’egli entrò nella sinagoga, e si mise ad insegnare. E quivi era un uomo che avea la mano destra secca. 7 Or gli scribi e i Farisei l’osservavano per vedere se farebbe una guarigione in giorno di sabato, per trovar di che accusarlo. 8 Ma egli conosceva i loro pensieri, e disse all’uomo che avea la man secca: Lèvati, e sta su nel mezzo! Ed egli, alzatosi, stette su. 9 Poi Gesù disse loro: Io domando a voi: E’ lecito, in giorno di sabato, di far del bene o di far del male? di salvare una persona o di ucciderla? 10 E girato lo sguardo intorno su tutti loro, disse a quell’uomo: Stendi la mano! Egli fece così, e la sua mano tornò sana. 11 Ed essi furon ripieni di furore e discorreano fra loro di quel che potrebbero fare a Gesù. 12 Or avvenne in que’ giorni ch’egli se ne andò sul monte a pregare, e passò la notte in orazione a Dio. 13 E quando fu giorno, chiamò a sé i suoi discepoli, e ne elesse dodici, ai quali dette anche il nome di apostoli: 14 Simone, che nominò anche Pietro, e Andrea, fratello di lui, e Giacomo e Giovanni, e Filippo e Bartolommeo, 15 e Matteo e Toma, e Giacomo d’Alfeo e Simone chiamato Zelota, 16 e Giuda di Giacomo, e Giuda Iscariot che divenne poi traditore. 17 E sceso con loro, si fermò sopra un ripiano, insieme con gran folla dei suoi discepoli e gran quantità di popolo da tutta la Giudea e da Gerusalemme e dalla marina di Tiro e di Sidone, 18 i quali eran venuti per udirlo e per esser guariti delle loro infermità. 19 E quelli che erano tormentati da spiriti immondi, erano guariti; e tutta la moltitudine cercava di toccarlo, perché usciva da lui una virtù che sanava tutti. 20 Ed egli, alzati gli occhi verso i suoi discepoli, diceva: Beati voi che siete poveri, perché il Regno di Dio è vostro. 21 Beati voi che ora avete fame, perché sarete saziati. Beati voi che ora piangete, perché riderete. 22 Beati voi, quando gli uomini v’avranno odiati, e quando v’avranno sbanditi d’infra loro, e v’avranno vituperati ed avranno ripudiato il vostro nome come malvagio, per cagione del Figliuol dell’uomo. 23 Rallegratevi in quel giorno e saltate di letizia perché, ecco, il vostro premio è grande ne’ cieli; poiché i padri loro facean lo stesso a’ profeti. 24 Ma guai a voi, ricchi, perché avete già la vostra consolazione. 25 Guai a voi che siete ora satolli, perché avrete fame. Guai a voi che ora ridete, perché farete cordoglio piangerete. 26 Guai a voi quando tutti gli uomini diran bene di voi, perché i padri loro facean lo stesso coi falsi profeti. 27 Ma a voi che ascoltate, io dico: Amate i vostri nemici; fate del bene a quelli che v’odiano; 28 benedite quelli che vi maledicono, pregate per quelli che v’oltraggiano. 29 A chi ti percuote su una guancia, porgigli anche l’altra; e a chi ti toglie il mantello non impedire di prenderti anche la tunica. 30 Da’ a chiunque ti chiede; e a chi ti toglie il tuo, non glielo ridomandare. 31 E come volete che gli uomini facciano a voi, fate voi pure a loro. 32 E se amate quelli che vi amano, qual grazia ve ne viene? poiché anche i peccatori amano quelli che li amano. 33 E se fate del bene a quelli che vi fanno del bene, qual grazia ve ne viene? anche i peccatori fanno lo stesso. 34 E se prestate a quelli dai quali sperate ricevere, qual grazia ne avete? Anche i peccatori prestano ai peccatori per riceverne altrettanto. 35 Ma amate i vostri nemici, e fate del bene e prestate senza sperarne alcun che, e il vostro premio sarà grande e sarete figliuoli dell’Altissimo; poich’Egli è benigno verso gl’ingrati e malvagi. 36 Siate misericordiosi com’è misericordioso il Padre vostro. 37 Non giudicate, e non sarete giudicati; non condannate, e non sarete condannati; perdonate, e vi sarà perdonato. 38 Date, e vi sarà dato: vi sarà versata in seno buona misura, pigiata, scossa, traboccante; perché con la misura onde misurate, sarà rimisurato a voi. 39 Poi disse loro anche una parabola: Un cieco può egli guidare un cieco? Non cadranno tutti e due nella fossa? 40 Un discepolo non è da più del maestro; ma ogni discepolo perfetto sarà come il suo maestro. 41 Or perché guardi tu il bruscolo che è nell’occhio del tuo fratello, mentre non iscorgi la trave che è nell’occhio tuo proprio? 42 Come puoi dire al tuo fratello: Fratello, lascia ch’io ti tragga il bruscolo che hai nell’occhio, mentre tu stesso non vedi la trave ch’è nell’occhio tuo? Ipocrita, trai prima dall’occhio tuo la trave, e allora ci vedrai bene per trarre il bruscolo che è nell’occhio del tuo fratello. 43 Non v’è infatti albero buono che faccia frutto cattivo, né v’è albero cattivo che faccia frutto buono; 44 poiché ogni albero si riconosce dal suo proprio frutto; perché non si colgon fichi dalle spine, ne si vendemmia uva dal pruno. 45 L’uomo buono dal buon tesoro del suo cuore reca fuori il bene; e l’uomo malvagio, dal malvagio tesoro reca fuori il male; poiché dall’abbondanza del cuore parla la sua bocca. 46 Perché mi chiamate Signore, Signore, e non fate quel che dico? 47 Chiunque viene a me ed ascolta le mie parole e le mette in pratica, io vi mostrerò a chi somiglia. 48 Somiglia ad un uomo il quale, edificando una casa, ha scavato e scavato profondo, ed ha posto il fondamento sulla roccia; e venuta una piena, la fiumana ha investito quella casa e non ha potuto scrollarla per che era stata edificata bene. 49 Ma chi ha udito e non ha messo in pratica, somiglia ad un uomo che ha edificato una casa sulla terra, senza fondamento; la fiumana l’ha investita, e subito è crollata; e la ruina di quella casa è stata grande. Mark 11 1 Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples 2 and said to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. 3 If anyone says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately.’” 4 And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. 5 And some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” 6 And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go. 7 And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it. 8 And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. 9 And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! 10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!” 11 And he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. And when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve. 12 On the following day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry. 13 And seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14 And he said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard it. 15 And they came to Jerusalem. And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold and those who bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. 16 And he would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple. 17 And he was teaching them and saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers.” 18 And the chief priests and the scribes heard it and were seeking a way to destroy him, for they feared him, because all the crowd was astonished at his teaching. 19 And when evening came they went out of the city. 20 As they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots. 21 And Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.” 22 And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. 23 Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25 And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.” 27 And they came again to Jerusalem. And as he was walking in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came to him, 28 and they said to him, “By what authority are you doing these things, or who gave you this authority to do them?” 29 Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question; answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things. 30 Was the baptism of John from heaven or from man? Answer me.” 31 And they discussed it with one another, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ 32 But shall we say, ‘From man’?”—they were afraid of the people, for they all held that John really was a prophet. 33 So they answered Jesus, “We do not know.” And Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.” Mark 13 1 And as he came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher, what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!” 2 And Jesus said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? There will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.” 3 And as he sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, 4 “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign when all these things are about to be accomplished?” 5 And Jesus began to say to them, “See that no one leads you astray. 6 Many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he!’ and they will lead many astray. 7 And when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. This must take place, but the end is not yet. 8 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. These are but the beginning of the birth pains. 9 “But be on your guard. For they will deliver you over to councils, and you will be beaten in synagogues, and you will stand before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them. 10 And the gospel must first be proclaimed to all nations. 11 And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. 12 And brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death. 13 And you will be hated by all for my name's sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 “But when you see the abomination of desolation standing where he ought not to be (let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 15 Let the one who is on the housetop not go down, nor enter his house, to take anything out, 16 and let the one who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak. 17 And alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days! 18 Pray that it may not happen in winter. 19 For in those days there will be such tribulation as has not been from the beginning of the creation that God created until now, and never will be. 20 And if the Lord had not cut short the days, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days. 21 And then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it. 22 For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect. 23 But be on guard; I have told you all things beforehand. 24 “But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, 25 and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26 And then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27 And then he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven. 28 “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. 29 So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates. 30 Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. 32 “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come. 34 It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to stay awake. 35 Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning— 36 lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. 37 And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.” Mark 14 1 It was now two days before the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to arrest him by stealth and kill him, 2 for they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar from the people.” 3 And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head. 4 There were some who said to themselves indignantly, “Why was the ointment wasted like that? 5 For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor.” And they scolded her. 6 But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good for them. But you will not always have me. 8 She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burial. 9 And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.” 10 Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went to the chief priests in order to betray him to them. 11 And when they heard it, they were glad and promised to give him money. And he sought an opportunity to betray him. 12 And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb, his disciples said to him, “Where will you have us go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?” 13 And he sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him, 14 and wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 15 And he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; there prepare for us.” 16 And the disciples set out and went to the city and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover. 17 And when it was evening, he came with the twelve. 18 And as they were reclining at table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me, one who is eating with me.” 19 They began to be sorrowful and to say to him one after another, “Is it I?” 20 He said to them, “It is one of the twelve, one who is dipping bread into the dish with me. 21 For the Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.” 22 And as they were eating, he took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.” 23 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. 24 And he said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. 25 Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.” 26 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. 27 And Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ 28 But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee.” 29 Peter said to him, “Even though they all fall away, I will not.” 30 And Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” 31 But he said emphatically, “If I must die with you, I will not deny you.” And they all said the same. 32 And they went to a place called Gethsemane. And he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 And he took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly distressed and troubled. 34 And he said to them, “My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Remain here and watch.” 35 And going a little farther, he fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. 36 And he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” 37 And he came and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not watch one hour? 38 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 39 And again he went away and prayed, saying the same words. 40 And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy, and they did not know what to answer him. 41 And he came the third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough; the hour has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.” 43 And immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. 44 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man. Seize him and lead him away under guard.” 45 And when he came, he went up to him at once and said, “Rabbi!” And he kissed him. 46 And they laid hands on him and seized him. 47 But one of those who stood by drew his sword and struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his ear. 48 And Jesus said to them, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? 49 Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. But let the Scriptures be fulfilled.” 50 And they all left him and fled. 51 And a young man followed him, with nothing but a linen cloth about his body. And they seized him, 52 but he left the linen cloth and ran away naked. 53 And they led Jesus to the high priest. And all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes came together. 54 And Peter had followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he was sitting with the guards and warming himself at the fire. 55 Now the chief priests and the whole Council were seeking testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they found none. 56 For many bore false witness against him, but their testimony did not agree. 57 And some stood up and bore false witness against him, saying, 58 “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another, not made with hands.’” 59 Yet even about this their testimony did not agree. 60 And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?” 61 But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” 62 And Jesus said, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.” 63 And the high priest tore his garments and said, “What further witnesses do we need? 64 You have heard his blasphemy. What is your decision?” And they all condemned him as deserving death. 65 And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to strike him, saying to him, “Prophesy!” And the guards received him with blows. 66 And as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came, 67 and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “You also were with the Nazarene, Jesus.” 68 But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you mean.” And he went out into the gateway and the rooster crowed. 69 And the servant girl saw him and began again to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them.” 70 But again he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders again said to Peter, “Certainly you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.” 71 But he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know this man of whom you speak.” 72 And immediately the rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept. Matthew 5 1 E Gesù, vedendo le folle, salì sul monte; e postosi a sedere, i suoi discepoli si accostarono a lui. 2 Ed egli, aperta la bocca, li ammaestrava dicendo: 3 Beati i poveri in ispirito, perché di loro è il regno de’ cieli. 4 Beati quelli che fanno cordoglio, perché essi saranno consolati. 5 Beati i mansueti, perché essi erederanno la terra. 6 Beati quelli che sono affamati ed assetati della giustizia, perché essi saranno saziati. 7 Beati i misericordiosi, perché a loro misericordia sarà fatta. 8 Beati i puri di cuore, perché essi vedranno Iddio. 9 Beati quelli che s’adoperano alla pace, perché essi saran chiamati figliuoli di Dio. 10 Beati i perseguitati per cagion di giustizia, perché di loro è il regno dei cieli. 11 Beati voi, quando v’oltraggeranno e vi perseguiteranno e, mentendo, diranno contro a voi ogni sorta di male per cagion mia. 12 Rallegratevi e giubilate, perché il vostro premio è grande ne’ cieli; poiché così hanno perseguitato i profeti che sono stati prima di voi. 13 Voi siete il sale della terra; ora, se il sale diviene insipido, con che lo si salerà? Non è più buono a nulla se non ad esser gettato via e calpestato dagli uomini. 14 Voi siete la luce del mondo; una città posta sopra un monte non può rimaner nascosta; 15 e non si accende una lampada per metterla sotto il moggio; anzi la si mette sul candeliere ed ella fa lume a tutti quelli che sono in casa. 16 Così risplenda la vostra luce nel cospetto degli uomini, affinché veggano le vostre buone opere e glorifichino il Padre vostro che è ne’ cieli. 17 Non pensate ch’io sia venuto per abolire la legge od i profeti; io son venuto non per abolire ma per compire: 18 poiché io vi dico in verità che finché non siano passati il cielo e la terra, neppure un iota o un apice della legge passerà, che tutto non sia adempiuto. 19 Chi dunque avrà violato uno di questi minimi comandamenti ed avrà così insegnato agli uomini, sarà chiamato minimo nel regno de’ cieli; ma chi li avrà messi in pratica ed insegnati, esso sarà chiamato grande nel regno dei cieli. 20 Poiché io vi dico che se la vostra giustizia non supera quella degli scribi e de’ Farisei, voi non entrerete punto nel regno dei cieli. 21 Voi avete udito che fu detto agli antichi: Non uccidere, e Chiunque avrà ucciso sarà sottoposto al tribunale; 22 ma io vi dico: Chiunque s’adira contro al suo fratello, sarà sottoposto al tribunale; e chi avrà detto al suo fratello "raca", sarà sottoposto al Sinedrio; e chi gli avrà detto "pazzo", sarà condannato alla geenna del fuoco. 23 Se dunque tu stai per offrire la tua offerta sull’altare, e quivi ti ricordi che il tuo fratello ha qualcosa contro di te, 24 lascia quivi la tua offerta dinanzi all’altare, e va’ prima a riconciliarti col tuo fratello; e poi vieni ad offrir la tua offerta. 25 Fa’ presto amichevole accordo col tuo avversario mentre sei ancora per via con lui; che talora il tuo avversario non ti dia in man del giudice, e il giudice in man delle guardie, e tu sii cacciato in prigione. 26 Io ti dico in verità che di là non uscirai, finché tu non abbia pagato l’ultimo quattrino. 27 Voi avete udito che fu detto: Non commettere adulterio. 28 Ma io vi dico che chiunque guarda una donna per appetirla, ha già commesso adulterio con lei nel suo cuore. 29 Ora, se l’occhio tuo destro ti fa cadere in peccato, cavalo e gettalo via da te; poiché val meglio per te che uno dei tuoi membri perisca, e non sia gettato l’intero tuo corpo nella geenna. 30 E se la tua man destra ti fa cadere in peccato, mozzala e gettala via da te; poiché val meglio per te che uno dei tuoi membri perisca, e non vada l’intero tuo corpo nella geenna. 31 Fu detto: Chiunque ripudia sua moglie, le dia l’atto del divorzio. 32 Ma io vi dico: Chiunque manda via la moglie, salvo che per cagion di fornicazione, la fa essere adultera; e chiunque sposa colei ch’è mandata via, commette adulterio. 33 Avete udito pure che fu detto agli antichi: Non ispergiurare, ma attieni al Signore i tuoi giuramenti. 34 Ma io vi dico: Del tutto non giurate, né per il cielo, perché è il trono di Dio; 35 né per la terra, perché è lo sgabello dei suoi piedi; né per Gerusalemme, perché è la città del gran Re. 36 Non giurar neppure per il tuo capo, poiché tu non puoi fare un solo capello bianco o nero. 37 Ma sia il vostro parlare: Sì, sì; no, no; poiché il di più vien dal maligno. 38 Voi avete udito che fu detto: Occhio per occhio e dente per dente. 39 Ma io vi dico: Non contrastate al malvagio; anzi, se uno ti percuote sulla guancia destra, porgigli anche l’altra; 40 ed a chi vuol litigar teco e toglierti la tunica, lasciagli anche il mantello. 41 E se uno ti vuol costringere a far seco un miglio, fanne con lui due. 42 Da’ a chi ti chiede, e a chi desidera da te un imprestito, non voltar le spalle. 43 Voi avete udito che fu detto: Ama il tuo prossimo e odia il tuo nemico. 44 Ma io vi dico: Amate i vostri nemici e pregate per quelli che vi perseguitano, 45 affinché siate figliuoli del Padre vostro che è nei cieli; poiché Egli fa levare il suo sole sopra i malvagi e sopra i buoni, e fa piovere sui giusti e sugli ingiusti. 46 Se infatti amate quelli che vi amano, che premio ne avete? Non fanno anche i pubblicani lo stesso? 47 E se fate accoglienza soltanto ai vostri fratelli, che fate di singolare? Non fanno anche i pagani altrettanto? 48 Voi dunque siate perfetti, com’è perfetto il Padre vostro celeste. Matthew 6 1 Guardatevi dal praticare la vostra giustizia nel cospetto degli uomini per esser osservati da loro; altrimenti non ne avrete premio presso il Padre vostro che è nei cieli. 2 Quando dunque fai limosina, non far sonar la tromba dinanzi a te, come fanno gl’ipocriti nelle sinagoghe e nelle strade, per essere onorati dagli uomini. Io vi dico in verità che cotesto è il premio che ne hanno. 3 Ma quando tu fai limosina, non sappia la tua sinistra quel che fa la destra, 4 affinché la tua limosina si faccia in segreto; e il Padre tuo che vede nel segreto, te ne darà la ricompensa. 5 E quando pregate, non siate come gl’ipocriti; poiché essi amano di fare orazione stando in piè nelle sinagoghe e ai canti delle piazze per esser veduti dagli uomini. Io vi dico in verità che cotesto è il premio che ne hanno. 6 Ma tu, quando preghi, entra nella tua cameretta, e serratone l’uscio fa’ orazione al Padre tuo che è nel segreto; e il Padre tuo che vede nel segreto, te ne darà la ricompensa. 7 E nel pregare non usate soverchie dicerie come fanno i pagani, i quali pensano d’essere esauditi per la moltitudine delle loro parole. 8 Non li rassomigliate dunque, poiché il Padre vostro sa le cose di cui avete bisogno, prima che gliele chiediate. 9 Voi dunque pregate così: Padre nostro che sei nei cieli, sia santificato il tuo nome; 10 venga il tuo regno; sia fatta la tua volontà anche in terra com’è fatta nel cielo. 11 Dacci oggi il nostro pane cotidiano; 12 e rimettici i nostri debiti come anche noi li abbiamo rimessi ai nostri debitori; 13 e non ci esporre alla tentazione, ma liberaci dal maligno. 14 Poiché se voi perdonate agli uomini i loro falli, il Padre vostro celeste perdonerà anche a voi; 15 ma se voi non perdonate agli uomini, neppure il Padre vostro perdonerà i vostri falli. 16 E quando digiunate, non siate mesti d’aspetto come gl’ipocriti; poiché essi si sfigurano la faccia per far vedere agli uomini che digiunano. Io vi dico in verità che cotesto è il premio che ne hanno. 17 Ma tu, quando digiuni, ungiti il capo e làvati la faccia, 18 affinché non apparisca agli uomini che tu digiuni, ma al Padre tuo che è nel segreto; e il Padre tuo, che vede nel segreto, te ne darà la ricompensa. 19 Non vi fate tesori sulla terra, ove la tignola e la ruggine consumano, e dove i ladri sconficcano e rubano; 20 ma fatevi tesori in cielo, ove né tignola né ruggine consumano, e dove i ladri non sconficcano né rubano. 21 Perché dov’è il tuo tesoro, quivi sarà anche il tuo cuore. 22 La lampada del corpo è l’occhio. Se dunque l’occhio tuo è sano, tutto il tuo corpo sarà illuminato; 23 ma se l’occhio tuo è viziato, tutto il tuo corpo sarà nelle tenebre. Se dunque la luce che è in te è tenebre, esse tenebre quanto grandi saranno! 24 Niuno può servire a due padroni; perché o odierà l’uno ed amerà l’altro, o si atterrà all’uno e sprezzerà l’altro. Voi non potete servire a Dio ed a Mammona. 25 Perciò vi dico: Non siate con ansietà solleciti per la vita vostra di quel che mangerete o di quel che berrete; né per il vostro corpo di che vi vestirete. Non è la vita più del nutrimento, e il corpo più del vestito? 26 Guardate gli uccelli del cielo: non seminano, non mietono, non raccolgono in granai, e il Padre vostro celeste li nutrisce. Non siete voi assai più di loro? 27 E chi di voi può con la sua sollecitudine aggiungere alla sua statura pure un cubito? 28 E intorno al vestire, perché siete con ansietà solleciti? Considerate come crescono i gigli della campagna; essi non faticano e non filano; 29 eppure io vi dico che nemmeno Salomone, con tutta la sua gloria, fu vestito come uno di loro. 30 Or se Iddio riveste in questa maniera l’erba de’ campi che oggi è e domani è gettata nel forno, non vestirà Egli molto più voi, o gente di poca fede? 31 Non siate dunque con ansietà solleciti, dicendo: Che mangeremo? che berremo? o di che ci vestiremo? 32 Poiché sono i pagani che ricercano tutte queste cose; e il Padre vostro celeste sa che avete bisogno di tutte queste cose. 33 Ma cercate prima il regno e la giustizia di Dio, e tutte queste cose vi saranno sopraggiunte. 34 Non siate dunque con ansietà solleciti del domani; perché il domani sarà sollecito di se stesso. Romans 8 1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. 10 But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you. 12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. 26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
